An 18th century/1700’s violin scroll

Antique Violins of Augusta started in 2016 when Jonathan had the idea of restoring antique, unloved violins, selling them, and supporting local orchestra programs with the earnings. This idea eventually evolved, and then a new dream was born, and that was to create a violin shop in a city without one. Jonathan met Nathaniel shortly after, and a new partnership was formed. Nathaniel would go on to study the repair aspect of lutherie, while Jonathan would go on to study the making aspect of lutherie, or violinmaking. Together they would establish Augusta’s only violin shop.

From the beginning, our mission has been to serve our community first and foremost, and that has entailed everything from providing complimentary evaluations, to providing free lessons to children. While we no longer provide free lessons, except in special circumstances, we do continue to push forward our mission of bettering our community. We like to think of the initial era of our business as operating as a sort of non-profit. In a sense it was like paying our dues, by giving to others first without the expectation of getting anything in return.
